 Purpose of Research

Advanced ceramics are underlying core materials to support modern environment/energy and IT components. Advanced ceramics are generally produced b powder processing, such as molding and sintering of raw powders. Although higher accuracy, better performance and lower cost are required in the advanced ceramics, optimization depending on intuition and experience has been carried out in many cases. We have conducted the researches to develop better advanced ceramics based on the scientific approaches on the cutting edge powder technology and evaluation technique, In this YNU research center, science on the powder process chain to improvement of the function and reliability of advanced ceramics will be investigated.

Research content / methods

In this YNU research center, science on the powder process chain to improvement of the function and reliability of advanced ceramics will be investigated. For example, internal structure of ceramic slurry, green body, and sintered body will be directly observed during ceramic processing. Furthermore, interfacial control of ceramic particles will be carried out. Sintering behavior will be optimized based on multi-scale and multi physics simulation. Local mechanical properties of ceramics will be measured in meso-scale using microcantilever beam specimens. For globalization and expansion of research field, international conference will be organized.
